Around Town

On Thursday Zach and I headed downtown to discover what the sushi situation in Ithaca is. We were terrified, as our diet depends almost entirely on sushi, but we were optimistic as we had passed a restaurant on our first day that was just opening, and all the workers were clearly speaking Japanese. A good sign, we figured. Things started off well as we were greeted with a resounding chorus of "irashimase," or welcome. We chose to sit at the sushi bar, as we miss our Morimori-sushi friend. Zach asked the sushi chef what he recommends, and he didn't understand. Luckily, we are well versed in the way of the sushi, and asked in Japanese! Success! The result was amazing sushi- not quite Morimori level, but I think above Inoji, plus we spoke Japanese all dinner! Imagine our surprise when we stop for ice cream on the way home, only to find our Japanese green tea and hi-chu (candy). Turns out the owner is Japanese, so we got to speak lots of Japanese there too! All in all, a successful night. And, if you're wondering, you can get Kaga sake (from Ishikawa).

Our amazing sushi.

Different houses that we pass on our walk home from downtown.
